Our History

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of redemption”.

In the early 1990’s God gave Pastor Troy L. Garner a vision to plant a church in Huntsville, Alabama. While serving as the Pastor of Sweet Home M.B. Church in Athens, Alabama, God opened the door for the vision. The vision was to begin a mission extension of Sweet Home in Huntsville. Pastor Troy shared this vision with Sweet Home and many embraced it. Thus, The Fellowship of Faith Church (TFOFC) was birthed as a mission extension of the Sweet Home Church.

This God-given vision officially began on November 2, 2003, at the Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama at 8 a.m. To God be the glory, ninety six (96) persons were in attendance. On November 7, 2004, our first Anniversary, TFOFC moved to the Baptist Student Center on the campus of the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). On November 14, 2004 TFOFC ordained seven (7) men to the Deacon’s Ministry. That event took place at the Highlands Baptist Church.

On Wednesday, February 9, 2005, God blessed us to purchase our present facility at 2117 Oakwood Ave. We dedicated the facility on March 6, 2004. In October 2005, TFOFC was officially accepted as a member of the Madison Baptist Association, a part of The Southern Baptist Convention.

In 2006, we underwent a major building renovation project inside and outside totaling over $100,000 including a steeple, new windows, new doors, painting, new carpet, new chairs and resurfacing the parking lot. We changed our theme from “It’s a New Day” to “Jesus is Exalted & The Word is Explained!”. Pastor Troy became a full-time pastor. Minister Monica Cosby was our first associate minister to be licensed.

In April 2007, to accommodate the growth and health of the church, we installed Elders & ordained more Deacons. We appointed ministry leaders to lead the various ministries. Also in 2007, Sister Vivian Barnes became our 1st Christian Education Director. The Church also purchased a van.

In March 2008, we changed our vision statement to reflect who we are: A word church—a strong teaching church. Also, in March 2008 we added a second worship service to accommodate the growth. We continued improving our campus landscape and inside facilities by adding television screens to enhance the worship, by placing tile in the foyer and by tearing down the house next to the church. We obtained a new website: http://www.TFOFC.org. In August of 2008, we hired our first part-time secretary/administrative assistant.

In November 2008, Pastor Troy’s vision was to burn the church’s mortgage by November of 2009, the plan was to build on the existing site however the largest renovation we could do would only accommodate a 500 seat sanctuary.

In June 2009 the doors open to purchase the former Memorial Parkway Church Of Christ building at 3703 North Memorial Parkway, Huntsville, Alabama.

After much negotiation we closed on October 15th and held our first service in the new facility on November 17, 2009, to celebrate the Pastor Troy’s birthday. Ribbon Cutting was done December 2009 and the first service in the sanctuary after major renovations was Easter 2010.

On August 2, 2009 the church held our first evening Communion and Right-Hand Fellowship service with 146 in attendance.

TFOFC continues to experience phenomenal growth numerically, financially and spiritually. It is evident as new members and new ministries are constantly being added to our church. To God be the Glory! God has a plan for The Fellowship of Faith Church. We are striving to fulfill our kingdom purpose.
